We welcome you to our monthly event series but would like you to know our ground rules first.  Failure to comply may result in removal from the event series and a request not to return.

promotions procedures

We do not allow speakers at the event.  We have tried this many times in the past and have found consistently that the crowd is not interested and so we have stopped.  We instead encourage those interested in promoting their cause to be prepared to circulate through the room and speak with people one on one.  We request advance notice of this promotion and, in return, will promote this in our event pages and in our advance promotions.  This encourages greater attendance.  We feel this is more inline with the intent behind organizing these events as it allows people to learn from one another, encouraging greater circulation within the crowd and keeps conversations focused on the environment.

registration procedure

We have a sign in sheet at the door to record the attendance as best as possible.  This is useful for us to record e-mail addresses of those invited by others, which allows us to increase our audience on the meetup.com group or the Facebook Page and thus attendance at our events.  This also allows us to understand how effective our promotions are as it includes a field to mention how people heard about the event.  We also offer name tags and/or lanyards at the event so people can identify themselves to others easily.  We strongly encourage bringing your own as we are always running out (as those that are used sometimes do not return).  Previous to this, we encourage people to RSVP in advance because we need to make sure that we do not exceed the fire code limit, which has come close to happening on occasion.  This also encourages further participation and attendance by the group if they know in advance who is attending.

location procedures

Vicious Circle kindly requests your permission to hold your credit card if you would like to start a tab, otherwise you will be required to pay cash for all items as they are ordered.  This is to avoid “walk-outs”, which has happened at just about every event before this policy was enacted (and the wait staff are required to cover that tab).  Vicious Circle has also included an 18% tip to all bills so there is no need to tip more.  There is parking nearby in parking lots to the west and north but the parking on-street is not available between 3:30 & 6:30PM (tow-away zone).
